THE AZARIAS STORY...

Azarias was set-up by me (Jo) & Craig in 2020 due to our love of the outdoors and a belief that young people should have the opportunity to get outside and challenge themselves.

We wanted Azarias to be more than a company that simply got young people from the start to the finish of an expedition.

An expedition should mean something.

We believe that young people should have the chance to make their own decisions, solve problems, get things wrong and discover that they can keep going when things don't quite go to plan. It isn't always easy – and that's part of the point. Those experiences help build character and resilience, which are at the heart of what Azarias does today.

WHERE ARE WE NOW??

Today, Azarias works with more than 1,200 young people each year, delivering Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE expeditions across the UK.

Behind those expeditions are a fantastic team of Expedition Directors, supervisors, assessors and outdoor professionals who bring a huge amount of experience, enthusiasm and personality to what they do.

Azarias works with mainstream schools, SEND settings, sixth forms and individual participants – and no two groups are quite the same.

As Azarias has grown, it has been important not to lose the personal approach it started with. The team wants to get to know the schools they work with, understand the young people they are supporting and make sure that expeditions don't become something that simply needs to be completed.

The wrong turns. The decisions. The difficult days. The teamwork. The laughter. The moments when things don't quite go to plan and a group has to work out what to do next are all part of the expedition experience.

If young people arrive at the finish a little more confident, independent and resilient – and proud of what they have achieved – then the expedition has been successful...if they want to get outside and walk again...even better!

WHAT MATTERS TO AZARIAS?

ADVENTURE

INDEPENDENCE

INCLUSION

Azarias loves adventure, but adventure doesn't have to mean climbing the biggest mountain.

It's about stepping outside what feels comfortable and taking on a challenge.

Young people can't learn to make decisions for themselves if an adult is constantly  telling them what to do.

Azarias staff are there to teach, support and keep participants safe – but also to know when to step back.

Azarias believes adventure and challenge should be accessible...not everyone has to have exactly the same experience.

A challenge for one young person may be completely different for another.
